I’ve known Bert for over two decades. His sister Kottie and my sister, Samantha, met in the mailroom at Paradigm in 2002. They both carried monogramed Gucci bamboo bags and wore high heels without flinching. Kottie was at my apartment on Stanley and Melrose almost daily. She talked about her brother but I often wasn’t listening. I was too caught up in my own shit to take in much back then.
Bert was always around, doing stand-up and eventually hosting a show for the travel channel, but I knew he aidn’t know Bert well, I understood him deeply.
I wouldn’t say that Bert was ever an underdog, but rather underestimated. he is the life of every party. He’s someone who wants to engage, connect, and make people laugh. He is also an innovator and disruptor, refusing to accept the labels placed on him within his industry.
It has been such a rewarding experience to watch Bert build his empire. I am so fucking proud of him.
