When I first met Kelley, I instantly judged her. I assumed she was just another wealthy Tribeca mom, married to a finance bro, and sporting a pilates physique. I don't find anything objectionable in that scenario. I actually have several close friends who fit this description. But at thirty-five, I was a bit more judgmental.
I assumed our conversation would revolve around PlayGarden's tuition fees, the type of milk we used in our lattes, and whether a walk on the Hudson River Parkway qualifies as cardio if we wear Golden Goose sneakers.
When I’d see Kelley passing, I was always cordial but never made an effort. It wasn’t until our sons were in class together that our relationship started to change. And as I learned more about her, I fell madly in love.
Kelley is so much more than I expected. She taught me a valuable lesson about making assumptions about people. To be honest, it was a lesson; I didn’t realize I needed help learning. But I did. Perhaps we all do. Or maybe I’m just an asshole, and this only pertains to me. Either way, Kelley's story will leave you in awe.
